What a relief it was for everyone to get out in the fresh October air and away from the zoomnami of video calls to play in one of the very few fundraising events we have been able to deliver this year. After postponement from May due to the global pandemic, the JSP and Heathrow sponsored PGA Pro-Am finally got under way at 08:30 on the 8th October on the stunning Bernard Hunt Course at Foxhills. The PGA, Foxhills and EGA did a terrific job of managing within covid compliant protocols to ensure a safe and well organised event. This year, for obvious reasons we could not have our usual hearty breakfast, shotgun start, afternoon drinks and evening dinner with prizegiving. However, thanks to the sponsorship of JSP and Heathrow, we welcomed 20 teams and 20 Professional Golfers through a scheduled arrival, timed bacon butty munching, precision tee off times, a packed lunch at the halfway house and marshalled departure times at the end. Our charity is humbled and grateful to all the companies that took the time out to support us and cheerfully accepted this disciplined, physically distanced approach. In support of our charity and this golf day JSP have designated a range of PPE in a Lighthouse Brochure and through sales in this range JSP puts aside funds for our charity. Our Pro-Am could not get off to a better start when Mark Johnstone CEO of JSP presented our charity with a cheque for £18,915.10… absolutely outstanding!! Heathrow have been amazing supporters of this event and even although the airline business is under severe commercial pressure, they managed to muster several teams from their supply chain to support our cause… another massive thank you to all at Heathrow!!! In total the event raised a magnificent £25,000 in much needed funds for the charity to support our Helpline and our workforce in crisis. On the course, the battle commenced for the bragging rights and to “lift” the coveted Pro-Am Trophy, in the end, Danny Sullivan Group took the honour with a clear winning margin. Team LeaderboardHowever, the leaderboard for the Pro Competition was tightly packed with four tied on first place. The nearest the pin on 8 was won by Charlie Cox, the 11th by John Marley and 16th by Tom Caullay and the Straightest Drive on 17th was won by Gordon McDonald. The on course entertainment this year was provided by the lovely Hannah Bowen golf pro , not only did she beat the majority of the field at the “beat the birdie” competition she had us in stitches with her version of Welsh dancing and raised a further £300 for the charity … go Hannah! PGA Pro LeaderboardUnfortunately this year we could not have a prizegiving dinner but so we will be contacting the winners to present them with their prize vouchers and we will get the trophy engraved !! Once again thanks to all for making this event such a success at such a difficult time. We are looking at dates in June next year and the possibility of making the competition a Texas Scramble with the Pro coaching the team around and only scoring for the team with birdies. Feedback and thoughts welcome to Bill.Hill@LighthouseClub.org or Laura McDonald at golf@Lighthousclub.org For JSP Lighthouse Range Brochure follow this link: JSP Lighthouse Brochure For Pictures at the Beat the Birdie Hole follow this link: Beat the Pro Pictures For full scoreboard from PGA follow this link: ( you will need to do a bit of clicking to get the hang of it .. we will bring back VPAR next year!) PGA Full Leaderboard Socially Distanced Team GalleryThe 2020 South East Open at The Berkshire was reduced to a select but competitive few to comply with the Covid-19 protocols. Eight teams gathered at what is considered one of the UK’s top courses in glorious early Autumn sunshine and azure blue skies. The course was in magnificent condition with the fairways like a quality pile carpet and the greens like billiard tables. The conditions for could not have been better for what turned out to be an extremely tightly fought competition. In the end only 6 points separated the teams playing in the morning competition round on the BLUE course. After rechecking the scorecards the winners this year on 88 Stableford points were the team from Phoenix Consulting pinching the trophy from the defending champions Jelmac Property Group on 87 points. There was no individual competition this year so the trophy remains with last year’s winner , Paul Champ of Scott Parnell. It was not anticipated that this year would be a fundraising event but as it turned out a number of the teams turned up with donation cheques and it was heart warming to know that our charity is so well supported by such generous organisations. The Berkshire looked after us well and kept us safe and Covid Compliant and the afternoon session was enjoyed by all on the RED course as the glorious weather continued into the early evening. The annual Scotland West v Scotland East golf event was hosted this year by Scotland West at the beautiful Drumpellier Golf Club.
